Sleet, snow, freezing rain and very cold temperatures blew into the Wichita Falls area Monday, forcing school closings and curtailment of many services and activities. Most school districts in the region were closed or had delayed openings on Tuesday. Airline flights into Wichita Falls were cancelled and the weather prompted closing of the Wichita County Courthouse and most personnel at Sheppard Air Force Base were told to stay home. The National Weather Service said the cold snap will last longer than most, with the possibility of freezing precipitation lasting into Thursday morning.
